Ability to specify barcode and get back default sequence for the labware

Hi - Hoping to get some help for a project on Vantage.

One thing I would like to do is to specify the barcode and get back the default sequence for the labware. I am doing 96-channel plate stamping.

I have the function that will give me the sequence by specifying the labware.
Labware ID → Default sequence

Where would I find a function that will give me the labware ID by specifying the assigned barcode?
Barcode → Labware ID

And is there a way of going directly from the assigned barcode to getting the default sequence or do I need to go:
Barcode → Labware ID → Default sequence

Hi @KellyTracy ,

You can use the VectorDatabaseHelper to perform all of these tasks.

As long as the barcode has been scanned or set, and sample tracking is maintained, you can return the labware ID or sequence by using a barcode. This works even if the plate was transported around the deck as sample tracking will know that the plate has moved.

There are also functions for finding barcodes of containers and the corresponding sequence of the specified barcodes.

@DDeschenes this is similar to what we were talking about!

Brandon,

Thanks for your help with this and providing the library. One follow-up question on getting this operational. I have the plate barcode scanned by the autoloader, and we have this function now taking in the barcode and outputting the sequence. We are setting the position of that sequence to 1. We are then using that same sequence in the next aspirate step as part of a 96-well plate aspirate process.

But we are getting an error that it is out of positions in the sequence. It needs 96 positions in the sequence for the aspirate (we are using the 96-head). Is this function just generating a single-well sequence for the plate or is it generating the default sequence for the 96-well plate (it’s a 96-well deep well plate).

It seems that the sequence coming out of this function isn’t 96 positions like I would expect. So wondering what is the output sequence of this function and how should I go about getting the default 96-well sequence of the plate based on the plate barcode alone?

Thank you,
Mike Mueller

Hi @mueller68 ,

It should return all 96 positions of the labware. The example method confirms this.

Could you trace the sequence after you use the function to see if maybe the sorting is not correct for the MPH. Are the labware that you are using loaded on the deck layout prior to run control, or are the labware added at run time? If the latter, this could be the root cause as there is no default sequences for that labware.

Another option would be to use this function, where you feed in the array of wells for it to build the sequence.

Hi Brandon,

I am pasting the relevant portion of the TraceView below. So it does output a 96-position sequence in the correct column format. I am using the sequence that is output from that barcode->command in the aspirate. And that is where I am getting that there are 0 available positions, even though I am setting it to position 1 so I wouldn’t expect that to happen. I am using a variable name in the sequence field of the aspirate command - I suspect the issue lies somewhere there. The variable name I am using in the sequence field of the aspirate command is “R1_sequence_from_labware_barcode” and it of type sequence and that is the output from the barcode-> sequence command.

It is correctly grabbing the 96-position sequence from the barcode → sequence conversion. I believe that sequence should be stored in the output o_seqPositions which in my case is “R1_sequence_from_labware_barcode”

Hi @mueller68 ,

I was able to reproduce the issue. The issue is because the max value is not set within the way the library acquires the default sequence.

To get around it, you need to add a SeqSetMax value after the sequence was retrieved.

The link has been updated with this bug removed.
