Running into lots of issues with SQL Server and the software installer recognizing the database as the correct version and service pack.
Beckman is not super helpful as they don’t condone user installation of the software on the controller. As I understand it, the W11 install is not validated yet so they can limit any technical responses to “this isn’t ready yet”.
@evwolfson I have version 5 on my windows 11 laptop. It works without issue. We can try remoting into your computer to see if I can fix it? Let me know if you are interested and I can give my info in the chat.
My IT would have an aneurysm if I asked them to have someone remote in but it’s a good thought
Do you know if it was a fresh install on W11 or on an existing install that upgraded to W11? I have successfully done the upgrade but can’t figure out the fresh install when the system is already on Windows 11.
If a fresh install on 11, which version of SQL do you have installed?
This appears with or without SQL installed. I’ve tried versions 2014, 2014SP2, and 2014SP3 but the installer doesn’t appear to recognize the installation state, existing or not.
Were you able to solve the installation problem? I’m having the same issue.
I’ve already tried uninstalling the SQL server I had on my computer and also tried installing it manually, but I still can’t get the Biomek software to install.
Good to know that it does work. I never heard back from Beckman about unsanctioned fixes for this, nor was I able to continue troubleshooting
For my case, I attribute this to the laptop being locked down too much by our IT department and just not being able to have admin over the install process. I wonder if this is the root of all my issues - probably some msi couldn’t run or was getting pushback from system security.
Finally, after several attempts, I managed to install it!
First, I uninstalled all the SQL components normally.
But even so, some folders remained on my system after the uninstallation: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server
(In one of the attempts, I used Geek Uninstaller, but it didn’t work — only IObit Unlocker did. In fact, with Geek, it deleted some files without properly uninstalling the software, and I even had to reinstall it just so I could uninstall it completely.)
Very interesting! I used geek as well but figured it was a dead end when it didn’t work for me. I’ve got my IT on-site so I’ll give this a try tomorrow and report back.
