BioMicroLab VolumeCheck

Hi everyone,

Looking at the VolumeCheck for dye-free volume checking in 96-well plates. Would love to hear from anyone who’s used it:

  • How fast is a full plate scan in practice?

  • How accurate is it, especially at low volumes? Much calibration needed?

  • Can it run inline with a liquid handler, or is it a separate benchtop step?

  • Would you buy it again? What did it replace?

Any real experience, good or bad, appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I am the VC specialist for Europe.

  • Scan can be 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes depending on configuration, and the 100 or 384 model, the latter of which is faster
  • Low volume is a bit subjective - the key is you need a liquid meniscus. So 1 uL in a 96F is not going to work, but in a 384V well then you can detect that fine.
  • A good chunk of VolumeChecks are integrated directly onto tecans/beckmans like a platereader, and I have seen multiple on larger platforms like those from Biosero/AJ. etc.

It isn’t a magic box - it has its tolerance and functional ranges. We have a tech note that shows where it can work and if you have a threshold I can tell you if it can hit it or not. There are some things it can do, like scan through lids or seals, or measure in smaller than 384, like 1536.
