Column 2 Offset?

Hi folks,

I’m a relatively new user of the Biomek software. I’m creating custom labware and editing the Wells_1 section of my new labware, and I encountered the Column 2 Offset field. I could use a little help understanding the purpose of this parameter.

The hint describes the field as:
Distance along the Y-axis from the edge of the labware to the center of the well in the second column, toward the back of the unit.

Why is this value not just your Y well offset plus 0.9 cm?
Does this allow you to specify an assumed skew to your labware as it sits on the deck?

Thank you!

Might be different for the Beckman-specific use case, but on other platforms, this allows you to define labware such as tube racks that are “high-density” in a honeycomb pattern:

Odd and even columns are staggered in the Y-axis in those types of labware so this allows you to specify the offset for odd and for even columns when they are different. This does fit with the hint you see on the Beckman software.
