Hi all, pretty basic question as I am still trying to get the hang of our instrument, but is it possible to create multiple sequences for the same piece of labware on Venus? i.e., if I want to pipette onto a plate, perform other separate actions on the deck, then come back to that plate and continue to work on it
yes you can. just create multiple sequences and name them differently.
I highly suggest using the sequences tool and keeping one sequence per labware. This makes things simpler for small protocols. I would also suggest you evaluating the Automatic vs Manual sequence progression on steps to let you keep your place in a sequence and continue on later in your script!
You can create all the sequences you like on a labware.
However, naming is important. Refrain from SeqA,B → Z
It’s quite handy if you make sequences on the fly (based upon worklists etc) or you want to make a sequence just for a single step. The world is your Oyster! Sequences (and sequence properties!) are the MVP
Curious as to why you suggest this? I’ve never had a problem using multiple sequences referring to the same labware, that’s why they’re separate after all…
Oh there’s no problem with having multiple sequences on the same labware and sometimes it’s great, but for @drake.’s implementation where remembering the last used position using a single sequence is absolutely the way to go as this is easier to be dynamic in case modifications are made for the script in the future.
My school of thought is that the least amount of sequence definitions for end plates the better especially to make sure to keep the program simple if you have aims to use barcode/sample tracking in the future!
Thanks for the responses all! However, these are the current sequences my deck has, but I cannot see from any interface on the software how you would add multiple sequences to the same piece of labware? Sorry for the basic question, if it helps we’re currently running Venus 3.
add the HSLSeqLib library from your methods.
Hi @drake.johnson ,
You can create new sequences within the deck layout by following the steps below:
- Click on Clear Selected to ensure nothing else is highlighted
- Highlight the labware and positions that you want to create a sequence for
- Click on Save As… to save your sequence to a new name
After the sequence is made, you can sort it or edit it by double clicking the sequence and using the window that pops up afterwards. Make sure to select OK and then Save if you do make edits.
Standard sorting for labware is X Ascending and then Y Descending.
Afterwards save the deck layout and the sequence will become available within your method.
I uploaded the VENUS three programmer’s manual here. Refer to section 8 for how to create sequences.
