Aiming to engrave the cryo tubes before they are used on the bench and frozen. The tubes are biobanking 1mL FluidX . We are excluding ink based instruments.
The main questions at the moment:
Cost
Reliability
Tubes it can handle
What maintenance requires
Data integration ready?
Does it include tube bc reader for tube’s native bottom 2d barcodes?
Software features: can jobs be scheduled and run based on priority? Can it be paused to remove already etched racks?
Any other feedback or lab references are welcomed too.
I am based in Australia and there is no lab here with any of these devices, that we know of, hence asking globally.
I can’t answer much to your questions, though I believe that LVL limits their instruments to their proprietary tubes based on my conversations with their reps.
You can also look into the Labman Multivial, this can engrave any tube or glass vial, not just the prepared surfaces. From speaking with them and our user feedback, it works quite well.
The Multivial is quite new and has a modern (I believe python based) software. It picks up tubes individually and inserts them into the sealed marking chamber in the deck. I would hope they have fume management controls.
I haven’t heard of the Lambda, it looks promising - their advertised cycle time is about 5x faster than the Multivial. The dacapper from AFYS3G also looks promising.
