I was wondering if there’s anyone on the forum who’s used either of these two devices? from what I can tell they’re essentially a inkjet printer where you add in your favorite solution in place of ink, then use it to dispense to plates.
The volumes are as low as you would expect for such a device, supposedly as low as 11 pL but has anyone here used them? I’ve heard there’s essentially DRM that prevents dispense cassette re-use but no idea on how strict that is or whether it could be circumvented
I’ve used the D300, but it was over 10 years ago. It worked very well and the software was easy and intuitive. We made dose-response plates and it was great for our throughput (<10 plates per run).
It did prevent you from re-using a cassette channel. If there were unused channels on a cassette, you could load the cassette and it indicated which channels could be used. I recall the restrictions on re-use being pretty strict, but I don’t remember the exact details. We never tried to circumvent it.
I suspect there is both a reliability and a business side of the one-time-use policy.

I have the same suspicion, I could imagine if there’s a bubble or a clog then performance would rapidly deteriorate, good to hear the restrictions are at least channel specific though. You could also continue to use the same channel across multiple plates in your run?
It’s been a while, but I think as long as you didn’t unload the cassette you could use across multiple plates. There was a load/unload operation that clamped the cassette into place.
