I3 biomek

Has anyone tried it? Seen it in person? What do you think? It gives me Veya and Opentron Flex vibes

I saw the release video posted on LinkedIn. I was surprised they didn’t have a 96 channel head option. Looks like only an 8-channel? But it appears to be a good deal smaller than their previous Biomek4000. Definitely looks like they’re competing against an OT Flex. But knowing Danaher the support will be minimal and the cost will be $$$. If I’m OpenTrons I wouldn’t have much concern. And if I’m a former Beckman user I think I might be looking for a Biomek4000 on the used market.

Maybe I’m just cynical.

On paper it definitely seems to compete with the Opentrons Flex or Hamilton Microlab Prep. The fact that the 8 channels are fixed together is not impressive and the software seems to be the same as the i5/i7. It also potentially costs than the Opentrons based on some rumors I heard.

Personally I would be more interested in an Opentrons Flex, though I would want to do some testing to see if their poor hardware reputation is still deserved.

I’ll see it for the first time at the Festival Of Genomics in London next week!
