Idea Brainstorming to Elevate Hamilton Automation Ecosystems with Digital Initiatives

Hi all,

I’m stepping into a role where my manager has tasked me with leading the charge to “mature” our digital tools for our automation suite, primarily composed of Hamilton platforms (Vantage 1.3s), with some Ambr15 and Beacon systems, too.

Beyond surface level improvements such as remote access/remote monitoring, automatic data copying (output files, instrument outputs etc.), what types of initiatives do you see as important to take integrated automation systems to the next level and make them “digitally advanced/mature”? If you have any real-world examples on how you’ve done this in your lab, I’d love to hear/see what you are able to share!

I have a specific interest in:

  1. Integration with ELNs (anyone use Biovia?): How have you connected Hamilton systems to your specific ELN for automatic data transfer? What types of data (e.g., raw outputs, processed results) are you pulling, and how are you using it within the ELN? Are there specific features or add-ins that shine for this?

  2. Integration with Genedata: For those using Genedata, how are you linking it with your automation systems? What data workflows have you automated, and how does Genedata complement or interact with an ELN like BIOVIA if you use both?

  3. General Digital Maturity: Beyond ELN/Genedata, what steps have you taken to make your automation systems “fire on all cylinders”? Examples of remote access, monitoring, data dashboards, or other digital tools that have transformed your workflows would be incredibly helpful.

I’m familiar with basic Python for automation and have worked with Hamilton’s VENUS software and HSL, but I’d love to hear about APIs, middleware, or other tools you’ve used to bridge systems.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!!

Hello,
Actually there are some things you can do.

  1. you can IOT buttons or usage data collection which is always good.
  2. For the software, we are integrating Genedata and Benchling and some internal LIMS to our Automated systems.

PIng me and i am happy to chat more
