Hey all! I am revamping one of our old methods and came across an odd issue, if you can call it that. Most of my changes regard keeping the liquid handling of the method as unchanged as possible, since these are methods we have used for a while. However, based on my understanding of liquid classes, the ones we have in there shouldn’t work. And yet, they do!
The aspiration step allows the user to select from matching liquid classes or set a variable. Whoever originally programmed this set the liquid class as a variable, with a dispense mode of Surface Empty Tip. When I checked the variable earlier in the method, it is defined as the Hamilton-standard liquid class string "“50ulTip_conductive_384COREHead_Water_DispenseJet_Empty”, which is for a Jet Empty Tip dispense mode. It doesn’t even appear in the list of options when using the liquid class dropdown menu.
I have gotten an Incorrect Liquid Class error more times than I can count, so that is what I would expect to happen with this one. But it does not. It works fine in Simulation, and it was run on the instrument less than two weeks ago with no errors.
I am not super worried since it IS functional, but again, it shouldn’t work based on my understanding of liquid classes. So it is confusing to me, and I don’t want to find out it is a one-off glitch that will go away in an update.
Does anyone have an explanation?
