Intalling Te-Shake to EVO 200

I would appreciate any tips with the following:

My lab has a Tecan EVO 200 with EVOware v2.7. I would like to install two Tecan Te-Shake devices that our lab has had for years, but I’m not sure the last time they were used with our EVO 200.

Here is a photo of the Te-Shake devices and our workbench:

I am not sure where to plug each Te-Shake’s cable. I tried plugging in our motherboard-looking panel shown in the photo below:

I plugged in the Te-Shake cable here and restarted the EVO 200 and EVOware. However, in EVOware, when I go to Configure → Device Information, I don’t see anything for Te-Shake:

Did I perhaps plug in the Te-Shake to the wrong place? Or, could this also mean I don’t have the drivers installed for the Te-Shake?

I noticed our setup also has a port channel hub, shown below, near the computer. However, I don’t think the Te-Shake cable can physically be plugged into these channels. Just mentioning this in case relevant.

Given this context above, my questions are…

  • where should I plug in the Te-Shake cable?

  • is there a chance I need to install specific Te-Shake drivers? If so, does anyone have these driver files they could send me?

Thank you for your help in advance! Any tips would be appreciated.

(I filed a help desk ticket with Tecan but they haven’t responded for weeks so reaching out here to crowdsource ideas)

you plug the shaker into the OPTIBO board - it gets it power and comms through this interface

if you have the EVOware installer disk, you can run the installer & select the driver from here

Thanks @Optimize. What is the name for EVOware installer disk? For example, perhaps this setup.exe file?

use the setup_ro.exe
this allows more drivers to be installed

Thanks @Optimize. I ran setup_ro.exe, selected “Modify”, and saw this menu. What do you suggest selecting here? I don’t want to mess up anything I currently have setup.

open up “options” category
in here, is the te-shaker driver
right click and select “this feature and all sub-features…” for the specific shaker driver

this will install 1 x instance of the driver for 1 x shaker
you will then need to duplicate the driver for second shaker

and then configure each to work with the specific shaker’s CANBUS option address

as long as you only perform the shaker driver install, everything else will remain the same

Thanks @Optimize. I found Te-Shake under Options. Before proceeding, I wanted to double check: what should I do for the other items (e.g,. “Instrument configurations”, “Incubators”, etc.)? Should I (re)install them as well, or exclusively install Te-Shake under Options? Like I said, I don’t want to mess up any preexisting devices.

Also, how do I duplicate the driver like you mentioned for the second shaker?

i would ONLY install te-shake driver
the other drivers won’t need to be altered

to duplicate, there is a separate “duplicate device” app for evoware - you would create a “TeShake2” device from this

thanks @Optimize. I was able to successfully install the driver for Te-Shake using setup_ro.exe.

As for making a duplicate device, I don’t think our computer has this “EVOWare Duplicate Device” program (as referenced in pages 757-758 of the manual). What is the file name for this program?

Is there a way to duplicate without using this program? If required, is this program something you could perhaps send to me, or would I need to get it from Tecan? thanks for the help

DuplicateDevice.exe in C:/program files (x86)/tecan/evoware/

Thanks @Optimize. I was able to successfully locate the Duplicate Device program and duplicate the shaker driver.

Note that I placed the shakers on my workbench and have plugged their cables into the OPTIBO board.

In EVOWare, I then changed the Configure settings as follows:

However, when I try to Initialize the system, it produces this error…

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

i would need to see logfiles to determine if the shaker mechanics are working,
and to make sure the physical address for the shaker is correctly aligned to the driver,

can you confirm which “O” address is set for the shaker under “Configure” ?

it’s likely we need a remote session to check the electronics/device configuration matches between the shaker & the driver

thanks @Optimize. Here is what I see in the I/O state tab (does this clarify the “O” address?)

I also tried doing some tests with the Shaker, as shown below. They seem to have worked, despite the system still not being able to Initialize as I mentioned in my prior post.

the “O” for Option address is inside the “settings” button when you highlight the shaker

in this, you select from dropdown the “O” which corresponds to the address for the shaker detected by the system - check the logfile for the device address for the “ORBI” device

@Optimize , Shaker is assigned O7. Shaker2 is not assigned anything. Note the Initialization error seemed to be for Shaker (perhaps Shaker2 is also problematic though)

you will need to confirm the address of the shaker - either by looking in the EVO log at start-up to see which devices are detected

or open the shaker front panel and look at the dial for the address
