Hi All, I’ve been lurking on the forum for a bit but realized I haven’t introduced myself here properly yet. I’m an engineer/scientist with a background in biomechanics. I’ve been involved with lab automation in one form or another for about 15 years now. I started out at Illumina but have worked at several startups since then including Counsyl/Myriad. I’m in the San Francisco bay area. I’ve worked on most of the major liquid handling platforms and have done a lot of work on systems integration. Currently I’ve Co-founded a company to provide bespoke ai-enabled solutions for lab automation customers. Which is a fancy way of saying I’m an independent lab automation consultant with a focus on leveraging new AI approaches. Our team is small right now, just myself and a couple of software engineers.

I’m Andy, and apparently I’m quite late in discovering this forum. I’ve been working with lab automation for ~18 years in various roles around the US (mostly in academia), and recently started as the automation specialist at a core-facility in Zürich, CH. Prior to this, I was part of a small team teaching an automated biology graduate program in Pittsburgh, PA for 6 years.
I got my start in this field accidentally, but I’m still having fun automating all these years later.
Have been in the industry in the past years doing a lot of Opentrons automation. My goal here is to explore how others have been bridging the gap between robot & data capture.
