I found this $5k SCARA arm after some extensive searching, seems like it would be very good value since it has the repeatability and reach of a PreciseFlex for a much lower cost. I don’t think it has an SBS gripper integrated yet but that would not be that difficult I think.

Let us know if you get one of the arms (or grape peeler). I’d be curious to hear how it works for you. I’ve been using several xArms (~$10k) and have been pretty happy so far. They are 6 axis, which is more of a pain than a feature, but the SDK is easy to use and the performance has been good.

I will add - the xArm linear rail hasn’t been quite as nice. It’s loud, there are lots of exposed pinch points and edges, and takes a bit of empirical testing to get to smooth speed / accel settings.

I have spoken with two people each from HITBOT and BIOYOND in the past two months.
HITBOT is a robotics and automation company that is active in both biotech OEM devices and retails business like coffee making. They claim more modern hardware and better performance while at lower cost compared to PF. Lower cost is definitely true. Their components are mostly provided toward OEMs but probably will sell one or two units too.
BIOYOND is founded by a group of former ABB engineers. Their SCARA looks very similar to the PF, I suppose also at a significantly lower cost. They do sell directly to end user labs.
