Hi!
When a protocol is aborted and the instrument is parked, is there any way to have the ML Prep eject the liquid currently in the tips in the waste?
Currently, when the protocol is aborted, the pipetting head moves to the side and just rapidly ejects the entire contents of the tip onto the deck.
This can be particularly bad when running a contamination-sensitive protocol like a qPCR plate setup where splashing sample on the deck creates DNA-containing aerosols that immediately make all nearby samples, tips and consumables unusable.
It would be much better if the instrument performed the same liquid ejection over the waste trough rather than on the deck.
HI there,
you can program your “OnAbort” Steps according to your needs:
In your case maybe something like this:

@nmaganz if the abort in the Prep happens before a dispense, it should automatically be relieving itself over liquid waste before rolling off the tips. There shouldn’t be a need for manually setting this as @dominik.b was suggesting (thank you though Dominik!).
Do you happen to know which version you are on? If you would, you might take a video of what you’re seeing (with water of course), and shoot it over to the helpdesk so it can be investigated.
The Prep doesn’t use VENUS software so the OnAbort approach cannot be used.
Hi all,
Thanks for the quick replies!
It’s good to know that intended behavior is for this relief to happen over liquid waste! Just a couple weeks ago I upgraded the software version to the lastest from the hamilton website - it shows up as Core Installer v3.2.0.00076 on the instrument.
I will follow your suggestion mrthorne, and submit a video to the helpdesk.
