We have been having the same issue recently with our Hamilton STAR, however it occurs on the 96-channel MPH rather than the single channels. The tips also stick to the same 3 channels every time. Our lab is at 55-60% humidity so it does not seem to be a static issue, I have also tried wiping down the channels with soapy water and a kimwipe but it did not help.
The fact that this problem is restricted to the same 3 channels consistently, and occurs across multiple tip types and brands (all CO-RE II), makes me think it is something about those channels. Any thoughts and inputs are appreciated!
Were you all able to resolve this issue? This still happens to us a lot, seems to happen more often after changing to CO-RE II. Had PM numerous times with them changing out some of the stop-disks only with temp results. Seems to happen always in top left quadrant of MPH on both Vantage and STAR systems.
Yes! We believe it was a heat issue with the o rings becoming sticky. We eject from a fixed height a few mm above the rack (I think 9) and its never happened since. The eject is quite forceful so theyll come off. The CORE II part is definitely real, that’s also when we started noticing it.
Aah did not even consider this, but indeed could very well be.. At what temperatures are you pipetting liquids? We’re ejecting in the regular waste but are experiencing similar behavior as shown in the movie.
We run at 37C on purpose. I have no idea what temperature the behavior actually starts at, it could be influenced by humidity as well. Naturally 10uL tips will be more likely to cling than 1000uL tips, which is what we use.
Are you guys re-using these tips? Multiple pickups/ejects can build up static as well. If you want to go full tin foil hat you can buy a static meter for around $400usd. Plate seals also produce an insane amount of static, not sure if you are sealing pealing anywhere but you could build up some static there.
