Is it possible to pipette at different heights with the span-8? I don’t see any way of assigning multiple heights in the aspiration step, and I can’t find any mention of this in the manual.
If this isn’t possible, what does the i7 default to when you say pipette -3 mm from the liquid height and the wells you’re pipetting from all have different liquid levels?
If you have nominal heights you want to aspirate from specific for each channel, I imagine you’d need to do some independent channel manipulation. However if you have some common reference point (z_max, well top, liquid level) then you can definitely expect each channel to pipette at the correct height in relation to that reference point. So in your example, each channel will pipette at a submerge distance of 3mm relative of where the liquid level is in each well.
The one caveat would be that the instrument needs to know what that liquid level is either via tracking during the run (done automatically) or providing known volumes when setting up the worktable.
