Possible to use MCA96 tips with an air FCA, no MCA?

Hello everyone,

In our lab we have a Tecan Fluent 780 with an air FCA and a RGA, with no MCA. Years ago many 100 uL MCA96 tips were bought (like these ones), I do not know for which reason. I was wondering if someone knows whether there is some way to use these MCA96 tips with just the FCA, since the box format is different. I would appreciate any input, thanks a lot!

These tips are meant to be picked up with a head-adapter that has rubber o-rings on the cones, so they won’t work with airFCA.

Note: there is a new MCA96 arm that supports liquid level detection and works with the same black tips that the airFCA uses but that is the opposite use-case than what you are looking for Download: Multiple Channel Arm 96 with optional gripper | Brochure | pdf | 402564

Hi,

I have follow up question - can you pick up tips meant for FCA/MCA96 with MCA384 with 96 tip adaptor? We are having troubles to make this work.

Thanks!

no - the MCA384 head adaptors for 96 are designed around a different tip to the FCA tips,

you will struggle, unless you change the mounting collar of the adaptor head - i’ve seen an engineered solution to making this work - if you’re interested, I can find out more info (not OEM supported)

No. There are the black conductive tips (suitable for capacitive liquid level detection) that work on FCA/MCA96 (Fluent) and separate from that the transparent tips for MCA96 (EVO) and MCA96 adapter for MCA384. They have a different shape and are not interchangeable.
