Hi everyone,
Orca v0.3.0 beta is now available!
Orca is a free and open-source lab automation scheduler, and this release brings a major shift:
The old YAML-based configuration system has been replaced with a Python SDK.
This makes it easier to define workflows without needing to learn a custom config format. If you know Python, you can build with Orca.
Orca was developed to provide an interface for integrating laboratory systems and data, enabling better interoperability and extensibility
—
Highlights:
Python SDK – define workflows, methods, and automation logic directly in Python
Event Bus – extend behavior with custom triggers and event handlers
Hamilton Venus driver – supports passing variables from Orca into Venus methods via a dedicated submethod (included in the Venus driver repo)
Parallel Processing - Runs labware threads in parallel

Drivers for additional devices are in progress, and the SDK and interfaces will continue to evolve as the project grows.
If you’re looking to try Orca in your lab, or want help integrating it with your equipment or system, I’d love to connect. Let me know what you’re building!
