Reviving Applied Biosystems® Twister® Robot Automation Accessory

We bought an old used real time PCR with a Twister arm attached.

Unfortunetly we have not been able to get information on how the setup the robot or how to operate the arm.

Is there any one in this formum that knows anything about this type of robot?

Below is a link to the place we orderd it from with a lot if images of the robot:

Thermo still has some resources available online - this should get you started at least Applied Biosystems® Twister® Robot Automation Accessory Quick Reference (Pub. no. 4468146 Rev. C)

That’s an old Caliper Twister Robot. They were acquired by PerkinElmer and are now Revvity. Caliper did do OEM for automated loading of other manufacturers devices. The Twister used to be controlled through iLink Pro which was discontinued many years ago. I did find this Caliper Life Sciences 76044/1 Device Control Unit w/ iLink Pro USED (8482)R | eBay - maybe you can get it to work this way?

Caliper… now there’s a company name I haven’t heard in a long time.

So if i buy the device control box and install the software on a old windows computer i guess it should work right? Or is there something extra?

Would it also work with the PCR or does that have it own software?

I am not sure it will work but it is the control unit - meaning PC - and the installer for the iLink Pro software apparently. The thermocycler should have it’s own software. I also do not know if the iLink Pro driver is included with the iLink license. Since it is a legacy Revvity product, maybe somebody from Revvity can help you out?

Think we will try to pop the hood and take a look inside. If anyone knows how to communicate to the machine then that would be very interesting. Maybe someone has some old API information on this old machine?
