Vantage Channel Tip Waste "Roll-off" Not Working

Hello,

I am using Venus 6 on a Vantage and for some reason the default waste tml file is off slightly in the X causing channel tip waste to not hit the metal waste piece. To resolve I’ve tried modifying the TML sites, modifying the 16pos waste RCK file, or modifying the location directly in the layout. In all cases, it correctly places the tips on the metal waste piece but doesn’t do the small +X movement to push the tips into the waste bin. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank!!

Hi @notsew

I’ll relay the same guidance and messaging I relayed to our applications team when I first looked into this issue a couple years ago, as this is almost certainly the issue in your case. In short, the semantics of the way that the default eject waste labware influences tip rolloffs changed with VENUS 6 compared to previous SW versions of VENUS for VANTAGE. If the default waste labware was overwritten during a package import, or if the default tip waste .rck X position isnt in its expected rolloff position, tips are ejected with no additional X movement.

If you can post your specific version of VENUS 6, I can post a link to the default waste labware set so you can restore expected files.

For VENUS 6 VANTAGE installations, the labware definition of the default universal waste TML (Hamilton\Labware\ML_STAR\CORE\VStarWasteBlock_Config.tml) was updated to have a modified site offset for the tip eject tray (pre-snapped into position). This means that compared to older versions of VoV, VENUS 6 will have a new X coordinate for channel tip waste.

When importing methods from older VoV versions, the tip eject rck will maintain its X position from the previous install, and deviate from the new default value. If the X coordinate of the tip waste in a method’s deck layout does not match the default X value expected by VENUS 6, the tip eject will not include a roll-off into the waste chute. This will result in tips falling unexpectedly in an uncontrolled manner, likely to cause issues and confusion.

When importing or restoring existing methods from older versions of VoV, into VENUS 6, it is important to ensure that Hamilton files are either unchecked or not overwritten during import. After importing, re-snap the tip eject tray rck to it’s site, and the coordinates should update to default.

The easiest way to check to ensure that your tip eject waste X coordinate matches expected default is to check the X position of the channel tip waste position of the maintenance deck (Hamilton\Methods\VM\Maintenance_VOV.lay) and ensure they match exactly.

Thanks.

Hi Nick,

That did work for me, I was still using an older version of the VStarWasteBlock and pulling in the new one worked. Thank you very much!
