The instrument is always running in safe speed. I can get it to run at regular speed after a method is started by pausing the run and going into manual control to unlock/lower and then raise/lock. I have tried adding these steps into the method but that does not work. I have checked to make sure the auto lock is enable in settings. I am not sure what else to look at, could it be something in a ATML sub method or HFM subs? I couldn’t see anything in them that calls an Unlock/Lower call, but I am running out of places to check. Any suggestions?

Are you running VENUS 6.4? If so, they are currently working on a hotfix for this. There are multiple cases where the VANTAGE will go into safe speed and stay in safe speed unless a specific firmware command is called or a raise loading tray and lock command are explicitly called from the control panel during a pause. I will keep you updated as to when that fix is released. In the meantime, if you have the ability to revert your VENUS version to 6.3.2 that is the best thing we can do right now.

Yes, we are running 6.4. I will check to see if we are able to revert without too much headache.

Backup and replace the respective dll in the Hamilton bin folder, then restart the pc.

For testing I obtained Venus 6.4 and I used it on a STAR-V running the latest firmware. However sometimes it would run fast and runs later it would run slow. I also noticed that sometimes a method would be loaded and sometimes a method would load and only till the first step was completed would “Method is completed”. The hotfix was applied etc.
Reverting back to 6.3 solved all of this on the same machine.

Thank you for the information. I would be more than happy to look into this with you further if you can provide more information on what exact things happened leading up to the VANTAGE switching between safe and regular speeds.
Internally, I have heard no more reports since the V3 hotfix was released of VANTAGEs returning and being stuck in safe speed.
On a default installation of VENUS 6.4 for any of the VANTAGE platforms (complete with the proper firmware package and IDL macros/upgrades being performed) and when automatic locking of the front cover is enabled in the system configuration editor, you should notice the VANTAGE changing from default speed to safe speed after the following events:
- pausing and then resuming
- a recoverable error occurs (ie no tip picked up) and you choose any resuming recovery
- loading a carrier with the load command
- using the unlock and lock commands in a method
Prior to 6.4, each of these resulted in no change to the instrument’s speed. The system would relock itself and proceed to the next step at default speed. So the hotfix is a single dll to replace the same named one in the Hamilton bin folder followed by a complete computer restart or power cycle to take effect.

I suspect it is then the firmware causing this rather than a hotfix. Especially since 6.3.2 (the version we have in the whole lab installed) has no issues and our STAR-V is completely set-up with this package.
For me, I wanted to see if 6.4 would be an interesting switch for new machines. Upgrading firmware would be a nightmare for documenting etc. We stick with 6.3.2 since it’s stable for us.
