Venus 4.5/Star: Spread Out Channel

Hi is there a command to spread out the channel as a manual step, similar to what happens during the instrument cleanup process? I checked the Single Step command ‘1000ul Channel Move to Position’ but that doesn’t seem to have the option. I have all the ML_STAR steps visible. Thanks

Hi Bryan,

My lab requested this as well for weekly maintenance to more easily wipe the channels down. One solution is to add virtual labware(s) to the deck, create a sequence with the number of positions of your channel and use ‘1000 uL Channel Move to Position’ to move to that sequence. I would suggest using some of the SMP_CAR that come standard with any Venus install, such as the SMP_CAR_24 and only add every 3rd position to your new sequence (assuming you have 8 channels).

I am not sure of your application, but be aware that when the method has ended or is aborted, the channels will go back to their standard position (which is not spread out as you desire). The fix for our lab was to prompt the user to power off the instrument after the channels moved to their spread sequence.

Hi bp11 thanks for the great suggestion, I think that should work for what we’re doing. Also found some interesting possibilities in STAR Channel Tools lib

Sending the firmware command “C0JE” (Zero not an O) will spread the pipetting channels as you are describing. You should be able to do this with the “Send Firmware Command” step in Venus.
