Venus/Hamilton ODTC Editor & XML Files

Hi,
I am using the Hamilton/Inheco ODTC and was curious if anyone had any information/documentation on what each parameter is in the editor and how they correlate to the XML file. When entering in a target temperature, the editor seems to set a lid temperature in the XML file. How is this calculated and what is the difference between the lid temp and the plateau temp?

Thermalcyclers will typically have a heated lid to prevent condensation or evaporation of the liquid in the wells.

The lid temp parameter is what sets this and it’s typically a bit higher than your highest temperature in the method.

The plateau temperature is the temperature that you want the block touching your samples to be and would be whatever you’re looking to cycle around (e.g. 72->98->60 n times or incubate at 25).

I don’t have the ODTC software installed (and it’s been a while since I’ve used it) but IIRC there was a field for setting the lid temperature somewhere when you make your method/initialize the instrument. Sorry I don’t have the documentation handy!

The lid temperature you have is likely the default at initialization.

Thaks for the reply. I’m really looking to see if anyone has any documentation on how the software functions. The XML files have ~20 parameters in these configuration files, but in the editor software you can only directly set ~5. I can edit the XML files outside the editor but want to make sure I am staying within device bounds and function. As well as making sure the settings are the same as our manual thermocyclers.

Hi @mwm,
Here is a link to download a manual for the Script Editor. It’s a bit outdated, but is the latest version I have available. For a more recent version, I would suggest going through INHECO’s support page to request the latest version of the manual: Excellent Technical Support for customers.

Thank you,
Dan
