Virtual Machine Venus Upgrade from 6.01 to 6.2 or 6.3

Hi All. I have a Vantage system in the lab that was upgraded earlier this year from Venus 6.0.1 to Venus 6.2 by our local Hamilton FAS to deal with some IPG path issues we were facing.

I have a Virtual Machine that I use for programming that is still on the Venus 6.0.1, and I would like to get the Virtual Machine aligned with the actual device. I have the Venus 6.2 installer already. Is there a standard process for how to do this upgrade? I checked the manual and the instructions were for doing a clean install, and not for an “upgrade” like this.

Do I need to uninstall Venus 6.0.1 to then reinstall 6.2? I know that Venus 4 used to have an “uninstall tool” from Hamilton; is that also the case here, or can i just remove the program directly through Windows “Add and Remove Programs” feature? Any other extra steps I need to be aware of?

Or if I already have 6.01 installed, can I just run the 6.2 installer as if it was a clean install?

I have already backed up my methods/labware/liquid class info in case there is issues, but just looking for what the recommended course of action is, especially since Venus 4 uninstalls were not straightforward in the past. Same question applies for when upgrading from 6.01/6.2 to Venus 6.3 (when its available), since I will likely want to upgrade to that when possible. Thanks!

Hi there,
At my previous employer we upgraded from 6.0.2 to 6.2 by uninstalling 6.0.2 and then running the installer for 6.2. It was also recommended to me to uninstall the SQL server after uninstalling 6.0.2 that way the SQL server is a clean install along with the new version of 6.2.
I was told that the later versions of Venus 6 are being written where you can just run the installer as if it was a clean install.
Hope this helps!
