Wellwash Versa

Hi all,

I am looking to integrate a Thermo Wellwash Versa into our Hamilton STAR. I have obtained the library which requires a COM Port. However, the device (connected via USB) is displayed as HID (Human Interface Device), which I find odd and can thus not send commands. Any help is highly appreciated.

What application is displaying it as HID?

Is the USB directly connected into the instrument or is it being routed through a hub?

The device manager where I was checking for which COM port it’s using.

It’s connected directly. It seems from the manual, that this displaying as HID is intentional, too.

Was there an installer that was associated with the library device / driver?

Maybe windows auto-installed a generic driver instead of whatever came with the device and is using that instead of the proper one.

Could have happened if you plugged the device in and then did the driver install after.

I have found how to resolve this. Surprisingly, connecting via the odd RS-232 C serial plug will identify the device as a COM Port. Thermo support had no clue about this difference when connecting the washer! Why those two connectors would behave differently, escapes me.
