"Zero Capital Molecular Biology"

Saw this post on LinkedIn recently, the paper is a pretty general tools paper looking at using Vibrio natrigens for molecular biology. They put a big focus on the “zero capital transformation protocol” so no incubator, no centrifuge. Given how much pricier automation friendly labware can be it also seems like it could be a useful tool for automated cloning also. Any old liquid handler with a gripper would be suitable for going from frozen cells+DNA to colonies on a plate without any extra integrations or hands-on time.

That’s awesome

@JBagley - have you tried this at all? Very curious about the efficiency as compared to electroporation

Sadly no it’s been on my idea board for a while but other projects have taken precedence

Interesting idea. How does it look for producing proteins? Ive been thinking of something along the same lines except by making your own enzymes. If you made a batch of something that lasted a lifetime it would certainly lower costs
