Has anyone programmed a Tecan Fluent, with an air FCA, to pierce through foil? We have an INHECO ODTC, On-deck thermal cycler, and we use mineral oil atop our reactions to limit evaporation. However, the mineral oil adds mass to the reaction, despite programming the INHECO device at 75-100uL (maximum volume) setup. Curious if a hidden custom attribute could be used to pierce foil with an air FCA.
Not an answer to your question but intrested in hearing about the efficiency of oil ontop of wells to limit evaporation.
How well does it work and did it have effect on other parts of the workflow/reaction?
Used it at the company I worked for and it was very robust.
With that said, DO NOT SPILL.
I have had good success with perching foil seals using the FCA on a Tecan Fluent.
Just be sure to have something to clamp it with. You can have a special labware or use a bioshaker to clamp the plate while you pears it. This is definetly the best solution as you can use more tips for perching.
If you do not have the space to add a bioshaker or a clamp then you can use another tip on the FCA to hold down the plate. This works very well but is not the fastest method and a bit challenging to program.
Love the use of minimal oil I have not had the opertunity to try it yet.
